Featured Road

Challenge: Glenn County needed a durable, reliable surface for a busy road serving local homes and heavy, loaded farming equipment near Princeton. The county needed something that could handle heavy agricultural traffic without requiring the road crew to constantly bring a grader back out to fix ruts and washboards. They also needed something that would fix the major dust issues residents would often complain about.

Results: In 2009, the county crew treated the native clay subgrade with Perma-Zyme. Instead of hauling in truckloads of expensive aggregate, they used standard equipment to mix the enzyme into the existing soil, creating a stable road base. Now, 17 years after the initial treatment, the road is still holding strong. Dust is no longer a problem, and there have been no major maintenance requirements at all beyond the county adding a thin layer of gravel over the top for extra friction.
