Featured Road

Challenge: This Mariposa County unpaved residential road features a steep grade and a sharp turn, which caused significant issues from the heavy traffic. Drivers spinning their tires on the incline caused constant washboarding and potholes, and the dry California summers turned the silty native soil into a massive dust problem. The county needed a way to stabilize this road so they could reduce regrading costs and control dust.

Results: In 2020, the county tackled the problem by treating the native silt and clay mix with Perma-Zyme. Years later, Pine Drive has become a durable, reliable roadway. The stabilized road base has practically eliminated the chronic washboarding and pothole cycles on the hill. The road stays smoother, traction remains steady, and the dust is down to a minimum.
