Featured Road

Challenge: Montrose Township had a mile-long dirt road suffering from maintenance issues because of the mixed agricultural and residential use of the road. Residents were frustrated by the continuous ruts, erosion, and freeze-thaw damage as well as the extreme dust in the summer. The magnesium chloride applications and regrading every two months were especially disruptive.

Results: In the summer of 2021, the crew tackled the project by blending the native clay subgrade with imported limestone to create a more resilient soil mix and then adding Perma-Zyme to the combined soil. By using Perma-Zyme to bind the new limestone-clay blend, the township built a stabilized road base that has drastically reduced their ongoing maintenance costs as just one application led to 6 months with no maintenance requirements at all. Less disruptions along with significantly reduced dust and ruts has made the residents much happier, especially without the harsh chlorides.
