Challenge: Emery County needed a durable, cost-effective solution for a critical 5 mile stretch of road connecting interstate 70 to local industrial and residential zones. With continuous heavy truck traffic, daily commuter use, and harsh Utah freeze-thaw cycles, they needed a stabilized road solution that would hold up while minimizing long-term maintenance and reconstruction costs.

Results: Emery County has enjoyed 30+ years of no reconstructions, translating into massive savings across labor, materials, equipment, and lifecycle costs. In the 1990s, Emery County used Perma-Zyme to chemically stabilize the native clay and limestone subgrade. Despite continuous mixed use traffic over the years, the stabilized subbase shows no significant signs of wear, requiring only routine, minor maintenance to the chipseal topcoat. That’s 3 decades of impressive performance and savings.
