Challenge: This mile-long private ranch road in Devers, Texas has to handle both heavy logging trucks and weekend recreational vehicles used for hunting. In addition, the local Gulf Coast climate drops intense, tropical downpours and occasional hurricane-level rains on the area. Before treatment, keeping a clay and gravel road from washing out into a muddy, rutted swamp under heavy vehicle axles was nearly impossible.
Results: In August 2020, the property owner decided to treat the native clay-gravel blend with Perma-Zyme using a standard earthwork fleet. The idea was to create a highly compacted, water-resistant barrier that could support timber haulers while resisting the frequent rain. Years after application, the road has proven to be incredibly tough. Despite hurricanes (including Hurricane Laura just weeks after construction), damaging winds, and consistent industrial hauling, the surface remains stable without washouts, severe rutting, or frequent regrading. With minimal maintenance, the road has stayed in good condition, saving significant resources and cost.
