Challenge: Located just outside Flint, Michigan, Atlas Township deals with a recurring road nightmare every winter and spring due to severe freeze-thaw cycles. Before, this mile-long limestone road would turn into a mess of deep mud and ruts, becoming completely impassable during these times. Things got so bad during the spring thaw that residents even had to park at the main road and walk the rest of the way to their homes. The township needed a real solution to keep the limestone road base stable for when the ground thawed.
Results: In 2013, the township decided to treat the road's limestone base with Perma-Zyme. Over a decade later, the chronic freeze-thaw failures have been totally eliminated. The road stays hard, stable, and reliable all year long, no matter how harsh the Michigan winter gets. And the residents get uninterrupted access to their homes, making everyone happier and halting the flow of complaints to the county.
